West Virginia Cities

West Virginia is an eastern U.S. state surrounded by the tree-covered Appalachian Mountains. You can find history in the state’s capital city, Harpers Ferry, at the confluence of the Shenandoah River and the Potomac River. The Civil War was fought here, and the area is a National Historical Park. It looks much as it did in the nineteenth century, and many of its historic buildings serve as living-history museums.

The state is home to several major cities, including Charleston and Parkersburg. The largest city in West Virginia is Charleston, and the state’s biggest airport is located in Charleston. Other major cities include Morgantown, Wheeling, and Huntington. While West Virginia’s largest city is Charleston, it is far from the most populous. Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Philadelphia are the state’s second and third largest cities, respectively.
